THE BOW'S BATTLING RAINBOWS

Rainbows like this are common on our river

Fish with the Heart of a Lion!

One of the impressions that will always be with you after a succesful day on the Bow River is the power and spirit of it's tremendous Rainbow trout.   These are fish with character!  When hooked, these healthy, large Rainbows (often 20 inches plus) battle with spectacular leaps and runs that often leave anglers awe struck with their power.  Bow River Rainbows are famous for their reel screaming runs and for their heart stoppping leaps from the water.  There is nothing like seeing a 22 inch Rainbow jumping 2 or 3 times before being landed and this is a frequent ocurrence with these fish!

It's unclear exactly where the Bow River Rainbows inherit their fighting genes.  One theory is that at one point the native rainbows were mixed with Steelhead populations, thereby increasing their fighting spirit and their silver look.  There is no doubt that some of the Bow River Rainbows I've caught have a definite "steely" look to them, so I'm one who tends to lean toward this theory.  Whatever, they are a Rainbow strain that matches anything you'll find in any river for power and fighting spirit.
