SLAVE LAKE MAGIC
a gorgeous slave lake sunset

this is a piece of heaven!
Lesser Slave Lake in north central Alberta is a magical place that pulls me to its shores every summer.  Life immediately begins to slow down and a feeling of peace seems to transcend all my trips to these waters.  In addition, spectacular fishing awaits those who travel there.  Pike, Walleyes and Perch can be found in abundance if you know how to fish for them.

At the end of the day, you may be lucky to get blessed with a sunset like this one captured by my son about 10:15 in early July.  The days are long and the nights are short during the summer at this special place.

NICE CATCH!

There are many ways to fish on this lake, but we prefer jigging with rubber jigs tipped with a minnow.  It can be very productive and it is a very quiet way to fish.  Others may prefer to troll, and this can also be productive.

Watch out for this lake though, as it can shallow up very fast and it's not unusual for boats to get hung up on the sandbars in the shallows.

Also, keep an eye on the sky and the wind when you're out on these waters, they can "blow up" very quickly, and when they do, boaters can be in for some dangerous moments.  This lake is about 80 miles long and the rollers can get large very quickly.  Bring a lifejacket and be prepared for anything.

There are spectacular fish to be caught in this lake.  Average walleyes will run in the 1-2lb range, but many exceed 3 lbs and there have been numerous walleys caught over 10 lbs over the years.

I have also seen many Pike over 10 lbs on this lake and have seen  excellent fish taken from shore and from docks, in addition to boats.
